Past Fundraising Events 2008
A very wet Car Boot Sale
The great British weather washed us out sadly putting off many sellers. We still had a few hardened sellers and buyers dodging the showers and the bacon butties and tea sold well to warm everyone up!
Despite the weather, we managed to make £206 and at least we have a perfect organisational plan in place for next year.
Welsh Male Voice Choir came to Shalford
This fabulous Brighton–based choir who perform for many charitable events came to Shalford for a fantastic evening‘s singing. Their passion for choral singing clearly filled the church‘s airy heights. They performed a variety of songs from musicals such as Les Miserables and Fiddler on the Roof to Welsh and spiritual songs.
In the two intervals a rising young star Heather Wrighton played the harp to much applause. Iris Warren the musical director ably directed the singers, accompanied by Liz Tunmer on piano.
We had over 120 people in the church and raised £1,011.
Once again thank you for everyone who made this event possible.
The annual Scout Fair where we had a sweet & game stall and car boot stall. One picture shows us holding up our beautifully created rats for the ’Splat the Rat‘ game in the front of our sweet stall. We work in conjunction with the Scouts helping each other out.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my pleas for car boot stuff – we had so much in the end it was coming out of our ears as you can see in the picture! And a big thank you to all my helpers who on a beautiful hot sunny day ended up sunburnt and exhausted! We‘ve added another £265 to our fund and donated over £400 to the Scouts fund which was the takings from running the successful bacon buttie stall.
Nostalgia Tea Party
The huge success of our Nostalgia Tea Party was thanks to Maureen Stenning who organised a serene afternoon of eating cakes and singing along to old fashioned tunes ably encouraged by our resident ‘conductor’ John, our Vicar. The church room was packed with lots of people from Shalford and Peasmarsh (including Sunrise residents and many who don‘t come to St Mary‘s to worship) and £300 was made from tickets sales, a raffle and gift stall.
Thank you to all who came and made it such a success.
10k Run / walk
The 10k run/walk saw 14 of us (the slower walkers pictured left) journey through beautiful Surrey countryside. The fastest runner took 58 minutes to complete the course. The last family back (including mine) took 4.5 hours (well, 5 year old Freddy was our pacesetter, and he managed to walk ALL the way!). A total of £1,600 was raised!
Thank you to all who took part and everyone who sponsored us.
